Alright, so you’re gettin’ hitched, huh? And in a Catholic church, no less! Well, bless your hearts. Now, I ain’t no fancy music expert or nothin’, but I know a thing or two about what sounds right for a good ol’ church weddin’. You gotta have the right tunes, ya know? Makes it all the more special, like a good pot roast on a Sunday.
First off, you gotta think about that walk down the aisle, what they call the “processional.” That’s when the bride comes in, all pretty and glowin’. Some folks like that “Ave Maria” song. Real pretty, real holy soundin’. Kind of makes you wanna cry, but in a good way, ya know? Then there’s that “Canon in D” thing. Heard that one a million times, but it’s still nice. People seem to like it, so it must be doin’ somethin’ right.
Now, before the bride even shows up, you gotta have some music playin’ while folks are sittin’ down and waitin’. They call that the “prelude,” I think. You want somethin’ that makes people feel peaceful and happy, like they’re in a good place. Hymns, they call ’em. Those are good. Gospel songs, too. Anything that talks about God and love and all that good stuff. Keeps folks from gettin’ too fidgety, ya see.
- Walkin’ Down the Aisle Songs (Processional):
- “Ave Maria” – Real tearjerker, but a good one.
- “Canon in D” – Everybody knows it, but it’s pretty.
- Other hymns or classical music pieces. Pick somethin’ ya like!
- Waitin’ Around Music (Prelude):
- Hymns – You know, those church songs.
- Gospel music – Happy songs about God.
- Sacred music – Anything that feels holy and peaceful.
And don’t forget about after the “I do’s”! When you’re walkin’ back down the aisle, all hitched up and happy, you need somethin’ joyful. Something that makes people wanna clap and cheer. I don’t know a lot of specific names, but somethin’ upbeat, ya know? Maybe even get those fancy organ pipes goin’ full blast. That always sounds grand.
Listen, pickin’ out music ain’t rocket science. Just gotta find somethin’ that feels right in your heart. Somethin’ that makes you and your fella happy. Don’t go pickin’ some crazy rock and roll or somethin’ though. This is a church, not a honky-tonk! Keep it respectful, keep it holy, and keep it soundin’ good. That’s all there is to it.
You can find all sorts of lists online, they say. Just type in “Catholic wedding songs” or somethin’ like that. They got samples and everything, so you can listen and see if you like it. But don’t get too caught up in all that. Just pick a few songs that make you feel good, and that’s all that matters. It’s your weddin’, after all.
Oh, and one more thing. Talk to your priest. He’s the one who runs the show, ya know? He might have some rules or suggestions about what kind of music you can play. Don’t wanna go and upset him on your big day. Just be respectful and ask nicely, and I’m sure he’ll be happy to help you out.
So there you have it. A little bit of advice from an old woman who’s seen a few weddin’s in her time. Just remember to keep it simple, keep it holy, and keep it soundin’ good. And most importantly, have a happy weddin’ day! Now go on and get hitched, ya hear?
