Oh, honey, let me tell you, my nephew’s gettin’ hitched! Yep, that boy of my sister’s, finally found a girl to settle down with. Good for him, I say! But now I gotta find somethin’ to wear. A sister of the groom dress, they call it. Sounds fancy, don’t it? Back in my day, we just wore our Sunday best, but these days, it’s a whole production.
This whole sister of the groom dress thing, it’s got me in a tizzy. So many choices! I saw these young’uns wearin’ all sorts of things. Some dresses, long like a curtain. Others, short like they’re goin’ to the dance hall. And the colors! Lord have mercy, every color under the sun.
My other niece, she says I should wear somethin’ “sleek” and “modern”. What’s that even mean? I’m an old woman, I ain’t no spring chicken anymore. Comfort is key, that’s what I always say. But I don’t wanna look like a frumpy old hen at the wedding neither. Gotta find that sweet spot, you know?
And then there’s the time of day. If it’s a mornin’ thing, they say you can wear a short dress. Like a cocktail dress. Or one of them midi dresses. But, if it is real fancy, maybe a long one is good. They say your dress should show who you are. I want to look like a good aunt. My son is not really care about what I wear. But I still want to look good.
Gotta think about the weather, too. If it’s hot, I don’t want nothin’ heavy and itchy. Maybe somethin’ light and airy, like a cotton dress. But if it’s cold, I might need a shawl or somethin’. Don’t want to catch my death of cold at a weddin’.

And then there’s the style of the whole shebang. If it’s a fancy wedding, I suppose I gotta dress up a bit more. Maybe one of them dresses with the sparkly bits on it. But if it’s a more casual affair, like a backyard barbecue, then I can probably get away with somethin’ a little more simple.
They say I should try to match the colors of the wedding party. But how am I supposed to know what color they’re wearin’? I ain’t no mind reader! Maybe I’ll just stick to a neutral color, like beige or navy blue. Can’t go wrong with that, right? But navy blue, it’s a bit dark. Maybe beige is better. Or maybe light blue? That’s a pretty color.
And then there is the shoes. I need comfortable shoes. Can’t be wearin’ them high heels. My feet would be killin’ me by the end of the night. Maybe some nice flats, or some low wedges. Somethin’ with a little bit of support. The groom will wear a suit, or maybe just a shirt. But he will look good.
And what about a hat? Some of the ladies wear them fancy hats to weddings. But I don’t know if I’m a hat person. Might mess up my hair. And I gotta get my hair done, too. Maybe I’ll just get it curled, or put up in a bun. Somethin’ simple and elegant.
My other niece, she’s a real whiz with this internet thing. She’s been showin’ me pictures of sister of the groom dresses online. There’s so many to choose from! It’s overwhelmin’, I tell ya. But she says it’s important to look good for the pictures. The wedding pictures will be there forever.
This one dress, it was long and flowy, with lace on the sleeves. It was real pretty, but I don’t know if I could pull it off. And it was kinda expensive, too. Don’t want to spend a fortune on a dress I’m only gonna wear once. I need to find a sister of the groom dress that looks good and not cost too much.
I saw another one, it was a simple sheath dress, with a little jacket. That one looked more my speed. And it was a nice color, too. A sort of dusty rose. Not too bright, not too dull. Just right. Maybe I’ll get somethin’ like that.
Wedding is important. I need to think more about this sister of the groom dress. It is hard to choose a good one. Maybe I will ask my nephew’s girl. She might know what is good. This is important. I need to look good. But need to feel good too. It is a long day.
